The Pros and Cons of UX Design Amendments to Your Website
May 9, 2023Lo-Fi Love: Why Low-Fi or Low Production Content is Winning Social Media (Thanks, Neil Patel!)
Hey everyone, Chelsea Bruce here! As a marketer constantly battling the social media algorithm gods, I’m always on the hunt for fresh strategies to stand out. Luckily, marketing guru Neil Patel recently dropped a gem of a TikTok video that’s got me very hopeful for my current content creation approach.
The secret weapon? Lo-fi content. AKA Low Production Filmed from your phone content. Yep, you read that right. Forget the fancy studios and professional editing software. Patel argues that low-fidelity content, shot on your phone and edited with a casual touch, can be just as – if not more – effective at grabbing attention.
Authenticity Matters
Why? It’s all about that authenticity factor. Lo-fi content feels personal, unscripted, and relatable. It’s like having a conversation with a friend, not a polished marketing pitch. Plus, let’s be honest, creating lo-fi content is a breeze compared to the time and resources needed for high-production videos.
Of course, Patel emphasizes that lo-fi is just one piece of the puzzle. Your content still needs to deliver value. Inform, educate, entertain – whatever your goal is, make sure your audience walks away with something worthwhile.
Collaboration is another key Patel highlights. Teaming up with other influencers or brands can expand your reach and inject fresh perspectives into your content.
Lo-fi content on average got 34.04% more likes and 18.52% more comments.
Finally, remember the platform matters! Tailor your lo-fi approach to each social media space. What works on TikTok might not translate to LinkedIn, and vice versa. Understanding the unique vibe of each platform allows you to speak directly to its users.
A big thanks to Neil Patel for this insightful tip! I’m excited to experiment with lo-fi content and see how it resonates with my audience. Watch video here:
@neilpatel The most overlooked marketing trend that businesses tend to ignore. Lo-fi content! When we looked at 3000 business accounts on both TikTok and Instagram, we noticed a trend. Their lo-fi content on average got 34.04% more likes and 18.52% more comments. If you aren’t familiar with lo-fi content, just think of content created from a cell phone. But typically, the lo-fi content that did the best, wasn’t only shot with a cell phone, it was still edited in which clips were changed roughly every 3 seconds. And although there were very fast frame changes, the content looked very “organic” because it was shot with a phone. It’s a great way to make your company and products look more approachable and authentic because it feels more real. So, the next time you are creating social media content, try lo-fi content.
Speaking of results, since incorporating lo-fi videos into our content mix, we’ve seen a significant increase in engagement and page growth. It’s clear that audiences are responding to the authenticity and ease of this approach.
